| A Note From Core Dev |

![]() It has come to our attention that some users are applying unofficial patches to their core Mambo installations. To be clear I am not talking about 3rd party extensions (i.e.) Mambots, Components, Modules, Templates, etc. Those are normally fine and can usually be removed through the GUI without serious issues. I am specifically talking about unofficial patches which modify core Mambo files. We do not recommend applying unofficial patches to the Core. Since these patches are not the work of the Foundation, we cannot assure you that they are fully compatible, that they have been adequately tested and that they will not cause problems in the future. You should also be aware that some of the unofficial patches are being released with non-standard or restricted copyrights, which may cause complications for you or your clients. We are always here to help support the community, but at the same time you must understand that we are unable to fully support work which we have not done. We are not judging the quality or the effort being put into these patches. The code may be fine and the patches may in fact work as advertised, but since the changes are not present in the Mambo SVN they may be in conflict with changes we are/or will make to the Mambo core at any given time. Future upgrades could break your sites and even support for your sites once a patch is applied is limiting. So just to restate my point: When you apply core file patches from external sites you are venturing into uncharted waters and my find yourself unsupported. It is always a good idea to get your files from the official Mambo sites. All official Mambo releases and extensions can be found on The Source. If you do wish to grab official files which are mirrored at another location, that is certainly fine, but you should cross check that the same files are present on The Source. If the file you are looking at is not present on The Source then it most likely is not official. If you have questions about if a patch is official and/or what changes it makes, please post your questions on this forum before applying the patch and we will try to assist you. Mambo On! |
